What started out as a training ride for the Ironman
ended up being the end to this year's Ironman.
While biking in Sumter County, during the Tour de Camden
Michael had an accident.
He doesn't remember anything
but we think he hit something in the rode while
doing about 30 MPH, downhill.
He landed on his head and left shoulder.
Cracked the back of his helmet, shredded his jacket,
had his Under Armor shirt cut off, but he wouldn't let
the EMT's cut off his favorite 7Up biking jersey!
He is missing quite a bit of skin, especially his hip and knees.
Worse of all he has a broken rib and collar bone.
His collar bone was shattered into five pieces.
We went to the Orthopedist Monday morning
and he had surgery Thurdsday, October 21
(Christi's Birthday!)
A titanium plate and nine screws later!
His shoulder will mend (eventually)
but the broken heart over not being able
to participate in the Ironman after all the
intense training all year will take a little longer to mend!
We have had so much outpouring of love from
our friends and family. We are so grateful
to everyone for the concern and prayers on Michael's behalf.
We are thankful for a loving Heavenly Father
who watched over Michael that day and allowed
his injuries not to be any worse than they are.
